Solid Waste Management Program
DS Foundation is starting a Waste Management initiative where we teach the rural people how to segregate their non bio-degradable waste from their bio-degradable waste, which can be used in their fields and for bio fuel. We plan on liasoning with different government and corporate organizations that work in the same field. We are currently in the process of researching different recycling programs to see what best fits our needs.
‘Save The Earth’ Program- a tree plantation initiative
Our upcoming ‘Save the Earth’ program will focus on planting trees across many villages in Rae Bareli district. The objective is to educate the people on the importance of trees and greenery to our environment. Additionally, we will also encourage them to keep their environment clean and green.
Solar Energy Initiative
We at DS Foundation believe that the future of energy lies in solar power. Given the ever increasing gas prices and lack of electricity in rural India, we want our villages and towns to be fully solar powered. In order to achieve this, the two programs we aim to launch are as follows:
Solar Powered fluoride removal plant for hand pumps
Since Rae Bareli is a high fluoride water zone, we hope to install solar powered fluoride removal plants in order to remove fluoride form drinkable water. Several companies manufacture products for this function, and our objective is to procure funding in order to implement these plants. Fluoride is known to have severe side effects if it exceeds the desirable limit in drinkable water. According to Fluoridealert.org, “Research already shows, in fact, that fluoride can cause arthritic symptoms and bone fracture well before the onset of crippling fluorosis, and can affect many other tissues besides bone and teeth, including the brain and thyroid gland.” (www.fluoridealert.org, 2014)
Electrification of villages through solar energy
Our aim is to electrify villages through solar powered lamps, cookers, water heaters, chimneys and charging points. We want the villages we work in to be completely independent and self-sufficient as possible. We aim to work on solar projects in tandem with the government, organizations and other funding agencies.
