‘Adopt a Village’ Program
DS Foundation has adopted a village in Amavan block, Rae Bareli, with the hope to make it a model village. Our vision for this project is to make it a fully solar powered, self-sustained village. We want every person in this village to get a basic education and have the skills and ability to be independent and capable of making their own income.
Cataract Removal Eye Camps
DS Foundation provides cataract removal surgeries for the aged population of Rae Bareli who cannot afford these operations themselves. This activity takes place during the winter months of the year for a duration of approximately three months. 30-40 camps are set up in different blocks of the district and hundreds of people benefit from this activity.
We work with reputed doctors from government hospitals to conduct these operations. Post-operational care is also provided to the patients in the form of follow-up checkups in case of any problems and eye drops and medicines for immediate care.
‘Pehchaan’- a vocational training institute for women
Pehchaan’ is a vocational training institute for women and girls started by the DS Foundation in 2015 as a women empowerment initiative. The objective of this program is to provide women with the skills necessary to enable them to generate their own income. Currently, our trainer is teaching them to cut, stitch, sew, and different kinds of embroidery.
Rural Health, Hygiene and Safety Program
Since 1994, health, hygiene and safety awareness camps have been set up by the DS Foundation in and around the district of Rae Bareli. The objective of these camps is to not only provide the rural poor with treatments and medicine they cannot afford, but also to create awareness about different diseases, and how best to avoid them. For example, we educate them on the importance of cleanliness, as it can lead to eliminating malaria and other lethal diseases.
Some of the activities undertaken for this initiative include:
- Cleanliness drive
- Blood and urine tests
- General health check-ups and medicine distribution
Cancer Awareness Program
DS Foundation initiated cancer awareness program in Raebareli district and organized several cancer reduction camps in partnership with government doctors. The objective behind organizing these camps was to create awareness so that preventive steps can be taken by rural poor who cannot afford for treatment as it is very expensive.
Blanket Distribution Program
Every winter, blankets are distributed in the rural sectors of Rae Bareli to provide relief from the cold weather. Approximately 1000 blankets are distributed every year.
